Royal Castle Motel, located at 45 W 103rd St in Chicago's Roseland neighborhood, offers a modest lodging option for travelers seeking affordability combined with flexible stay durations. With a rating of 3.4, the motel appeals primarily to guests who prioritize customer service and practical amenities over luxury.
The rooms at Royal Castle Motel tend to be small and simple, often described as dim or uninviting by some visitors. While the clean and friendly front desk service receives consistent praise, the motel's location in a less secure part of Chicago can impact guests' overall experience. Travelers should be aware of the surrounding environment, which includes visible law enforcement presence and occasional foot traffic of homeless individuals.
Despite these challenges, the motel compensates by providing free Wi-Fi and parking—commodities valuable to many. The absence of on-site restaurants, pools, or fitness centers signals a focus on essential accommodations rather than extensive amenities. For visitors intending to explore nearby attractions such as the University of Chicago, Hyde Park homes, or the Oriental Institute, Royal Castle Motel can serve as a functional base, though transportation considerations are advisable given the neighborhood’s characteristics.
Royal Castle Motel’s unique offering of flexible stay options—ranging from four hours to overnight—caters well to short-term stays, making it a practical choice for travelers with specific time constraints. In essence, Royal Castle Motel embodies a no-frills, service-oriented lodging solution within a challenging urban landscape. It invites guests to weigh the balance between convenience, cost, and environment, shining brightest through its courteous staff and flexible offerings.

Nice rooms & service is nice but a little expensive for just a few hours. Bad location because Roseland is a very bad neighborhood.
The location is on the further south side of Chicago. Room was dark and depressing and small. There were homeless people walking all through and police everywhere. I gave 5 stars for the customer service. Hotel clerk was nice.
Decent for the price. Never had a problem with customer service. Nice that they offer a 4 hour or 10 hour option as well as overnight. Been here multiple times no problems so far.
Huge residential district with the University of Chicago, Hyde Park homes & the Oriental Institute.
Curated spots travelers usually pair with a stay in Illinois. Distances are rough real-world times, not straight-line.
